My Story, My Voice:
A 14-session residency designed for the Special Needs Classroom – Grades K through Adult
The students become the writers, composers, actors, directors and performers of their own original songs and stories.
Lesson plans and goals are designed and adapted with classroom and site personnel to achieve maximum student participation.
In this 14-session residency, the students will:
- Write their own original lyrics and set them to music
- Use the story from their song to create a play
- Learn to perform their song with their voice and/or rhythm instruments and movement
- Develop an awareness of self and of others by performing in a group
- Increase their communication skills by learning to express and emote through theatrical techniques, adaptive music implements and vocalization
- Practice and record their original compositions, which provides the opportunity to practice self-assessment, modification and revision.
