My Story, My Voice:
A 14-session residency designed for the Special Needs Classroom – Grades K through Adult

The students become the writers, composers, actors, directors and performers of their own original songs and stories.
Lesson plans and goals are designed and adapted with classroom and site personnel to achieve maximum student participation.
In this 14-session residency, the students will:
- Brainstorm ideas and write an original story.
- Break the story into scenes and write lyrics and dialogue for each scene.
- Set their lyrics to music that the students create using Logic Pro music software; MacBooks are provided by Southland Sings.
- Write connecting dialogue, creating a short musical with 6 t0 8 songs.
- Learn to perform their musical with their voice and movement
- Develop an awareness of self and of others by performing in a group
- Increase their communication skills by learning to express and emote through theatrical techniques, adaptive music implements and vocalization
- Practice and record their original compositions, which provides the opportunity to practice self-assessment, modification and revision.
- Perform their musical masterpiece for a live audience.

For the K-12 General Education Classroom,
After School Prevention Programs and At-risk / High-risk Sites

In this residency, students become the writers, composers, actors, directors and performers of their own original songs and stories.
The workshops integrate literacy, music, theatre, and general education curriculum to create two original vocal music compositions.
The integration of literacy in this program builds confidence and engages students who are falling behind, have learning disabilities and English Language Learners who are encountering challenges in language fluency.
In this 14 to 20-session residency, the students will:
- Write their own original lyrics and set them to music
- Use the story from their song to create a play
- Learn proper vocal technique
- Practice theatrical affect and physical composure
- Develop an awareness of self and of others
- Use the mnemonic methods of music and art to learn classroom curriculum
- Deepen their emotional and musical expression
- Perform their final pieces in front of a live audience

From the Page to the Stage
For the K-6 General and Special Education Classroom
In this residency the students become the writers, actors, directors and performers of their own original play.
In this 10-session residency, students will:
- Strengthen their literacy and theater skills by creating and acting in their own play.
- Create original characters and story, then divide their story into scenes
- Break into small groups, with each individual group writing dialogue for one of the scenes
- Put all the dialogue together to create an original play
- Cast the roles
- Memorize their lines
- Work as directors staging their production
- Create a set
- Costume their characters and work with props
- Perform for a live show for an audience of their families and peers
